Our classroom education at the middle and high school level consists of five 45-minute lessons that can be accommodated to meet the needs of schools with any type of scheduling, including block schedules.

The fifth grade program consists of one 45-minute lesson in which the boys and girls are separated the entire class period in order to reduce embarrassment and encourage feedback, communication, and concerns or questions.

5th Grade Topics
  • Boys and Girls are separated to allow a more open, comfortable environment for instruction and discussion
  • Puberty and the changes that come with this stage of life
  • Hormones and how they affect our bodies
  • Basic anatomy
  • Personal hygiene

 

6th Grade Topics
  • Anatomy and development of reproductive system
  • Emotional needs, maturity, immediate gratification and decision-making by goal setting.
  • Love, infatuation, setting limits and sexual abuse
  • Physical, emotional, mental and social consequences of sexual involvement, including basic STD information (definition, transmission, symptoms and prevention)
  • Social maturity, peer pressure, self-esteem and effect of media

 

7th Grade Topics
  • Emotional & mental maturity and mature decision-making builds positive relationships
  • Respect for yourself & others and positive dating attitudes
  • Possible consequences of premarital sex, STD information (more detailed - transmission, symptoms, results, prevention) and setting limits
  • Pregnancy from conception to delivery, clearing-up misinformation regarding pregnancy and sexual abuse
  • Peer pressure, self-esteem and media influences

 

8th Grade Topics
  • Mature/immature behavior, handling pressure, consequences of sexual involvement, benefits for waiting until marriage and abuse
  • Healthy progression of a relationship including the definition/identification of commitment, setting limits and qualities in a marriage partner
  • Teen pregnancy, parenting and secondary abstinence
  • STD review of facts, long-term effects of STDs and the reality of "safe sex"
  • Contrasting possible negative effects of premarital sexual involvement with positive effects of sex within marriage, positive self-esteem and resisting pressures (peer & media)
  • **New for 2011/12** Ten Signs of Relationship Abuse

 

High School Topics
  • Whole-person consequences of premarital sexual activity, sexual pressures, an “Abstinence Plan” and secondary abstinence
  • STD PowerPoint presentation and dating dilemmas
  • Freedom that abstinence brings, love and infatuation and the compatibility game where students can determine what qualities are most important in a mate.
  • Self-esteem, commitment in relationships and panel of peers giving their own stories
  • Healthy communication in relationships and effects of sexual activity on personal goals
